An explosion outside the United States Embassy in Oslo has been described by Norwegian authorities as a “very serious and completely unacceptable incident,” according to Jonas Gahr Støre, the Prime Minister of Norway.
The blast reportedly occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday near the consular entrance of the embassy facility. Authorities believe the attack was targeted and may be connected to the prevailing security and political tensions in the region.
Prime Minister Støre confirmed that he had spoken with embassy officials following the incident and assured the public that the Norwegian government was closely monitoring developments.
“The Foreign Minister and the Minister of Justice are actively involved. The police and security agencies are now deploying significant resources to investigate the matter,” he said.
He further reassured residents that there was currently no indication that the explosion posed any broader threat to the public in Oslo or other parts of the country.
Nevertheless, security measures have been strengthened around the embassy as well as other sensitive locations, including American, Israeli, and Jewish sites across Norway.
The Norwegian Police Security Service stated that the threat level against American interests in Norway remains unchanged and is still assessed as moderate while investigations continue.
