The Northern Youths Renaissance for Peace and Restoration has expressed deep concern over the devastating effects of banditry and insurgency in the northern region.
The group emphasized that the North is “bleeding” and falling further behind as criminal activities continue to thrive unchecked.
Salisu Gambo, the Secretary of the Group, in a Statement, highlighted that insecurity has overshadowed socio-economic development in the region. “The region is grappling with serious security challenges, and economic growth has ceased to be a priority,” he lamented.
The Group expressed confidence in the capabilities of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and his troops, stating their belief in the military’s ability to restore peace. Gambo noted that the resources that should be directed toward economic development are instead being diverted to combat terrorism and banditry, hampering progress.
Moreover, he pointed out that the current security situation deters foreign investors from considering opportunities in the North. “No sensible investor would risk entering a region plagued by insecurity,” he stated, urging local leaders and elders to conduct self-reflection on the legacy they are securing for future generations.
The Group’s statement poignantly declared, “Our region is bleeding and lagging behind. Where is all the security funding going? Who in their right minds would want to invest in the North?”
In conclusion, the Group reiterated its support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria, commending their relentless efforts and sacrifices to restore peace in the region, stating, “We must do our part so that their efforts do not go to waste.”
