The North East Women for Peace has lauded Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Olufemi Oluyede for launching a welfare initiative aimed at enhancing the economic wellbeing of military personnel’s families.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by President Saratu Gambo, the group expressed its appreciation for Gen. Oluyede’s efforts to secure the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces’ approval to collaborate with financial institutions. This partnership will facilitate the provision of soft loan schemes for the spouses of service members at significantly reduced interest rates.
Describing the initiative as both timely and strategic, the group highlighted that it reflects military leadership’s dedication to the welfare of service families. The proposed loan scheme is designed to provide spouses of military personnel with accessible and affordable financing, thereby alleviating financial pressures and fostering household stability.
The statement underscored that enhanced welfare for military families directly contributes to the morale, focus, and operational effectiveness of troops stationed in various operational theatres across the country. “The sacrifices made by our Armed Forces are immense, and initiatives like this are crucial in boosting their morale and dedication to serving the nation,” the statement read.
North East Women for Peace emphasized that national security is not solely secured on the battlefield; it also hinges on the continued support and welfare of those supporting the troops from home.
The group further praised the President for his unwavering commitment to policies and programs aimed at uplifting the Armed Forces and their families. They expressed optimism that the successful rollout of the soft loan scheme would set a new standard for military welfare initiatives, further reinforcing the confidence, loyalty, and fighting spirit of troops protecting the nation.
