Nollywood production manager Sodiq Adebayo has shared how his father, veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, played a crucial role in guiding him toward a career behind the camera.
In a recent interview with Nollywood on Radio, Adebayo recounted a formative conversation with his father and the late Alhaji Rasheed during a trip to Ilorin. Curious about the challenges of filmmaking, he asked his father which role in the crew was the most difficult.
“My dad said maybe directing, because he didn’t like the technical side,” Sodiq recalled. “Then he suggested production management but assumed it wasn’t something I could do. Alhaji Rasheed said, ‘Why would he say that? We’ll guide you.’ That stuck in my head. I wanted to know what production management was all about.”
Motivated by curiosity and passion rather than money, Sodiq began learning the craft. He studied under Lasun Ray Eyiwunmi and consulted his brother, Femi, before formally stepping into production management.
Although Sodiq once dabbled in acting, he admits his shy nature and preference for working behind the scenes guided his career choice, despite being the son of a prominent actor.
“What I do is driven by passion, not money,” he emphasized, highlighting his commitment to the craft that shapes Nollywood’s productions from behind the camera.
