Veteran Nigerian actress Olanrewaju Hassan Adeshina, popularly known as Mama Awero, has declared she will continue acting for as long as she lives.
Speaking in a recent interview, the 75-year-old actress, whose career began in 1964, reflected on her lifelong passion for performance. “I will die acting. I have been doing this since 1964 and I don’t know how to do anything else aside from acting. I am also knowledgeable in film costuming because I learned that from my bosses in my early days as an actress,” she said.
Mama Awero also shed light on the rich history of the Awada Keri Keri theatre group, naming members who played pivotal roles in shaping Nollywood. Among the lesser-known names she mentioned were Prince Jide Kosoko, Yomi Fash Lanso, Ronke Odusanya, Kunle Afod, Bakky Adeoye, the late Funmi Martins, and Dele Odule.
She also highlighted that fellow actors like Sola Sobowale, herself, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), and Papi Luwe were key figures in the theatre group.
Mama Awero, who began her career with the Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group, has remained a formidable presence in Nollywood, with a career spanning over six decades. Her dedication continues to inspire new generations of actors and theatre enthusiasts alike.
