Media personality and fashion entrepreneur Noble Igwe has called on Nigerians to rethink how they spend the Christmas season, urging a shift away from the usual Detty December parties and luxury experiences toward reconnecting with family.
In a message shared during the festive period, Igwe emphasised the importance of spending quality time with loved ones, describing family moments as more valuable than material displays or social outings.
He encouraged Nigerians, particularly those living in major cities and the diaspora, to make the effort to return home and spend time with their parents, siblings, and extended family members.
According to him, financial status should not determine whether people prioritise family connections during the holidays, noting that the memories created during such moments often outlast material wealth.
“Go home, see your aged parents, see your siblings, and spend time with loved ones during Christmas,” Igwe said. “It does not matter how much you earn; do it when you can and do it for the memories. Nothing is promised.”
His remarks have struck a chord with many Nigerians who often find themselves torn between work commitments, travel challenges, and the pressure to participate in high-profile festive activities associated with Detty December.
For many, the Christmas season has increasingly become synonymous with concerts, parties, and luxury getaways. Igwe’s message, however, serves as a reminder of the emotional value of reconnecting with family, especially aging parents, during a time traditionally associated with togetherness.
The comments have since sparked conversations online about finding balance between festive excitement and the need to nurture family bonds during the holiday season.
