Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has dismissed claims that officials of the commission received $1.2 million from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for the Kebbi Stadium project.
Dikko made the clarification on Friday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.
His response follows allegations by former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, who accused the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of pocketing $1 million meant for the stadium’s construction.
Dikko, however, stated that the funds were managed directly by FIFA and not handled by any Nigerian official.
“Nobody collected the $1.2 million for the Kebbi stadium because FIFA manages the project directly,” Dikko explained.
“It’s FIFA that appointed the consultant, the contractor, and will pay the contractors directly.
The job of the Nigeria Football Federation in this kind of instruction is to provide the land and specify the requirements.”
He further emphasized that all financial transactions and project oversight are handled by FIFA, ensuring transparency in the process.
