Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the only political endorsement currently made by his camp is for Bola Tinubu, stressing that no governorship or other elective candidate in Rivers State has received his backing at this stage.
Speaking on Monday night at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, during a joint stakeholders’ meeting involving members of All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike said his political position remains open and transparent, with his support for Tinubu being the only commitment he has publicly and privately maintained.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the political errors witnessed in previous election cycles will not be repeated.
He warned aspirants and political actors against assuming that any sitting governor or external force can impose candidates on the people of Rivers State, insisting that the state’s political direction will be determined by collective stakeholder decisions rather than personal ambitions.
Wike also acknowledged the role played by the Rivers State House of Assembly under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, noting that the Assembly’s actions have significantly influenced recent political developments in the state.
He urged members of the APC–PDP coalition to remain focused on protecting the interests of Rivers State, emphasizing that only those genuinely committed to the collective cause will ultimately benefit from the political process.
Cautioning against premature endorsements and internal rivalry, Wike said political strength is built on loyalty, unity, and strategic cooperation—not financial power.
He warned that external interests are already attempting to fracture the alliance because of the success the coalition has recorded.
“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they will do anything to ensure we are divided,” Wike said.
The FCT Minister also expressed disappointment over what he described as betrayal by some individuals who, after benefiting from appointments secured through the group’s efforts, have now turned against its leadership.
He described such conduct as a reflection of poor character and cautioned that political manipulation and deception would not succeed.
Addressing rumours of secret endorsements for upcoming elective positions, Wike firmly denied backing any governorship or legislative aspirant, insisting that his position remains unchanged both publicly and privately.
He reiterated that the coalition has officially endorsed only President Tinubu for now, making it clear that no other endorsement has been granted.
Wike further praised council chairmen, Rivers elders, and leaders of both political parties for effectively coordinating the stakeholder meeting, noting that the absence of complaints over exclusion demonstrated the strength and inclusiveness of the gathering.
