Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has called on women to prioritise financial independence, stressing that economic stability plays a greater role in shaping life choices than marital status.
In a recent post shared on Instagram, the actress encouraged women to focus on building their financial capacity, noting that being unmarried should not be seen as a disadvantage.
According to her, a woman’s value is not tied to whether she is single or married. However, she warned that a lack of financial security can significantly limit opportunities and personal freedom.
“Woman to woman, you should be more afraid of being poor than being unmarried,” she wrote. “Singleness doesn’t take away your worth, but poverty can take away your choices.”
Blessing emphasised that financial strength empowers women to make informed decisions and live independently without undue pressure from societal expectations.
Her comments have since sparked conversations online, particularly around the importance of economic empowerment and shifting traditional views on marriage among women in Nigeria.
