Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has announced her decision to pause movie production, citing heavy financial losses and disappointing returns from recent projects.
In a candid post shared online, the actress revealed that she has spent more than ₦80 million producing films since September but has not recovered even a fraction of the investment.
“I have spent over ₦80 million producing movies since September and I haven’t gotten ₦1 million back,” she wrote, expressing frustration over what she described as a lack of audience support unless films are heavily promoted.
Nkechi suggested she would step away from filmmaking for now, adding that she plans to return to travelling and focus on other personal interests.
Her announcement triggered an outpouring of encouragement from fellow celebrities, including actress Tonto Dikeh, who urged her not to see the setback as defeat.
“Give up? Who is permitting that? Not on my watch,” Dikeh wrote, encouraging collective support and promotion of her work. She emphasised resilience, unity, and faith, adding that perseverance would eventually yield results.
Actress Eriata Ese also weighed in, reminding Nkechi that success often comes after repeated challenges and urging her to remain consistent.
“Good things don’t come easy. It may look like a waste now, but one day you will look back and see that it was part of the journey,” Ese wrote, stressing that persistence is key.
Nkechi Blessing’s experience reflects broader challenges within the Nigerian film industry, where high production costs, piracy, weak distribution systems, and limited funding often make profitability uncertain.
Despite Nollywood’s growth and global recognition, many filmmakers continue to struggle with recouping investments, raising ongoing concerns about sustainability within the industry.
