Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has criticised what she described as society’s conflicting attitudes toward women’s bodies and cosmetic surgery.
In a video shared on social media, the actress expressed frustration over men who now encourage women to embrace their natural appearance after years of mocking and criticising their bodies.
According to her, persistent body-shaming and harsh comments have played a major role in pushing some women to undergo cosmetic procedures such as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
Blessing argued that societal pressure and unrealistic expectations have significantly influenced the growing popularity of body enhancement surgeries.
“You people mocked women for years because of their bodies, but now you are the same ones telling them to love themselves the way they are,” she said in the video.
She added that many women turned to BBL procedures after enduring repeated insults about their physical appearance, particularly criticisms about not having fuller backsides.
“You bullied women for not having big backsides, and now you are telling them not to do surgery,” she said.
Despite the ongoing debate, the actress stressed that no amount of criticism would make her alter her own body. She described her physique as a result of personal effort and success.
Blessing also emphasised that women should be allowed to decide what they want to do with their bodies without facing judgment from society.
“I am proud of my body, and I will not alter it because people talk,” she said.
However, the actress noted that the only type of surgery she might consider in the future would be weight-loss surgery if necessary, adding that she would not undergo enhancement procedures such as BBL.
She concluded by urging people to stop criticising women for personal choices related to their bodies.
