KOICA-backed initiative targets rural, underserved communities
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has taken delivery of 350 National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment devices in a move aimed at strengthening digital inclusion and expanding access to identity registration across Nigeria.
The devices were formally handed over at NIPOST headquarters in Abuja by a delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), led by its Country Director, Eunsub Kim.
Receiving the equipment, the Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, commended KOICA and the Government of South Korea for their support of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Odeyemi said the new devices would significantly enhance NIPOST’s capacity to deliver accessible NIN enrollment services nationwide, particularly in remote and underserved communities.
She noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to broaden access to essential public services, adding that NIPOST’s extensive nationwide network positions it as a critical partner in driving inclusive digital identity enrollment.
According to her, the development will further strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem by bringing identity registration closer to citizens at the grassroots.
Speaking at the event, KOICA Country Director Eunsub Kim praised NIPOST for its role in advancing Nigeria’s digital development objectives.
Kim explained that South Korea’s support forms part of an ongoing initiative known as “Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria.”
He disclosed that the devices are supplied with pre-installed NIN enrollment software and are complemented by training and deployment support to ensure effective utilisation across the country.
