The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a blend of sunshine, cloudiness, and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday, with dust haze expected in parts of the North and Central regions.
In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said the northern region will experience predominantly sunny and cloudy skies throughout the forecast period.
Across the southern states, conditions are expected to be mostly sunny with intermittent cloud cover. However, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall may develop later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.
For Tuesday, the agency predicted sunny and hazy conditions over the northern and central regions, while the southern region will see sunny skies with patches of clouds. Morning thunderstorms with light rain are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States, while later in the day, thunderstorms may spread to Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.
On Wednesday, NiMet forecast sunny and hazy skies over the northern region during the morning, with dust haze likely to develop in the afternoon and evening. The central region is expected to remain sunny and hazy throughout the day.
In the southern region, cloudy skies with sunny intervals are anticipated, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States.
NiMet cautioned that dust particles are currently in suspension over the North Central region, advising members of the public—especially those with asthma and other respiratory conditions—to take necessary precautions.
The agency also issued safety advisories for road users and airline operators. “Driving under rainfall should be done with caution,” NiMet warned, adding that airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency to support effective flight planning.
