Nigeria’s federal ministries have completed a major digital transformation, shifting to a fully paperless system to streamline operations, enhance security, and improve accessibility for both civil servants and the public.
The announcement was made by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Didi Walson-Jack, who said all 38 Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Departments (MEMDs) now operate entirely digitally, with more than 100,000 official GovMail accounts created for civil servants.
Under the new system, paper correspondence will no longer be processed; only scanned documents sent via official email addresses will be accepted. Walson-Jack noted that this transformation strengthens government communication, reduces reliance on external email subscriptions and saves billions of Naira annually.
She added that ongoing collaboration with telecom providers aims to improve internet access and ensure reliable connectivity across ministries. Citizens can now track their correspondence through the Federal Civil Service Paperless portal, meaning traditional letters are no longer required.
“This shift not only modernizes our operations but also enhances transparency, efficiency, and accountability across the civil service”, Walson-Jack said, emphasizing that all interactions with federal ministries are now fully digital.
