Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has assured Nigerians of improved security nationwide following his briefing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
Although he did not provide specific operational details, his assurance comes amid intensified joint operations targeting insurgents, bandits, and other violent groups across several states.
The COAS’ statement follows reports that the Nigerian Air Force recently routed terrorists in Borno, Katsina, and Kwara states, neutralizing hundreds of them.
Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting on Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Shaibu said his assessment of current security operations, particularly after his recent visit to the Northeast, indicated encouraging progress.
When asked what Nigerians should expect in the coming weeks, Lt. Gen. Shaibu replied confidently, “Improved security across the country”. He added that his briefing to the President included the outcome of his operational tour of the Northeast and updates on the broader security situation.
“The overall situation during the period under review was satisfactory,” he said, noting enhanced coordination among security agencies and continued pressure on criminal networks.
