The Nigerian Senate has begun screening three ambassadorial nominees forwarded by President Bola Tinubu for confirmation.
The screening commenced on Tuesday under the leadership of Senator Sani Bello (APC, Niger North), chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. The nominees appeared before the committee and were thoroughly vetted.
The committee’s report is expected to be presented at plenary for consideration and possible confirmation in due course.
Speaking during the session, Senator Bello stated that Ayodele Oke had addressed and cleared all previous allegations against him.
President Tinubu had, in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary last week, requested confirmation of the nominees: Kayode Are (Ogun State), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State), and Ayodele Oke (Oyo State).
These three names were transmitted ahead of the 32 other nominees announced by the President, although the others have not yet been read by Akpabio.
