Nigeira’s Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has approved the nomination of former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode for appointment as ambassador.
Other nominees cleared include former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau, ex-special adviser on new media to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, former presidential aide Senator Ita Enang, and Senator Grace Bent.
Also confirmed were former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Victor Ikpeazu, among others. The screening on Thursday, conducted in batches of five nominees, saw a brief moment of tension during Omokri’s session.
Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Adams Oshiomhole disagreed over the procedure for his clearance. After the nominees introduced themselves, Ndume moved a motion to allow them to take a bow and leave, while some senators, including Oshiomhole, sought to comment.
However, Committee Chairman, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, recognised Oshiomhole to speak, but Ndume insisted that his motion be seconded first, sparking a sharp disagreement between the two lawmakers.
According to confirmed sources within the Senate, all nominees approved by the committee are expected to be forwarded to the full chamber for final confirmation in the coming days, paving the way for their formal ambassadorial appointments.
