The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that train services on the Port Harcourt–Aba corridor will resume on Tuesday, following a suspension for routine maintenance.
The suspension came after a train breakdown at Imo River on September 3, which forced passengers to trek long distances and seek alternative transport, as captured in a viral video on social media.
NRC’s eastern district spokesperson, Onyedikachi Onovo, stated that efforts to fix the fault on-site were unsuccessful, leading to the deployment of an alternative locomotive to rescue stranded passengers. The affected train has been returned to Port Harcourt and is now undergoing thorough repairs.
Passengers impacted by the disruption are advised to visit Port Harcourt or Aba stations with proof of payment for possible refunds or replacements.
NRC reiterated its commitment to improving rail services under its renewed hope agenda, focusing on safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
