In a renewed push for development, the Nigerian Government is strengthening cooperation with the United Nations on programmes targeting youth and women.
Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, made this known while receiving a UN delegation led by Felipe Paullier, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Shettima explained that the collaboration would focus on key areas including financial inclusion, skills development, job creation, as well as peace and security initiatives.
He said the administration of Bola Tinubu sees Nigeria’s young population as a major driver of economic growth and national transformation.
According to him, the government is committed to turning the country’s demographic advantage into real economic gains through targeted empowerment programmes.
The Vice-President also proposed stronger institutional frameworks in partnership with the UN and other stakeholders to support youth and women development across the country.
Earlier, Paullier said the UN delegation’s visit was aimed at reinforcing support for Nigeria’s development agenda, particularly in advancing youth-focused initiatives.
He described Nigeria as a vibrant nation with a dynamic youth population, noting that placing young people at the centre of policy decisions would accelerate innovation and development.
Paullier added that youth empowerment must go hand in hand with gender equality, improved access to education, and job opportunities.
He also highlighted ongoing UN efforts globally to support young people through training, human rights protection, and skills development programmes.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration aimed at unlocking opportunities for Nigeria’s youth and women.
