With security and development top of the agenda, governors in several Nigerian states have vowed to protect lives, maintain peace and accelerate growth in 2026.
In Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo described the New Year as a period of “Hope and Growth”. Reflecting on his administration’s first year, he thanked God for guidance and protection throughout 2025, noting that the year had been marked by steady progress despite inherited challenges.
“We thank the Almighty God for keeping us through 2025 and bringing us safely into 2026. It has been a remarkable first year in office, with successes recorded, challenges encountered, and lessons learned”, Governor Okpebholo said, promising stronger security, accelerated development, and renewed hope for Edo residents.
In Kogi State, Governor Usman Ododo reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to embrace unity, hard work, and patriotism. He highlighted the state’s gains in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and youth and women’s empowerment, attributing progress to disciplined governance and citizen cooperation.
In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas took a firm stance against extremists and criminal elements, pledging to make the state unsafe for violence and crime. Speaking from Jalingo, he assured residents of his continued commitment to inclusive governance, security, and socio-economic development.
“We reaffirm zero tolerance for violence, extremism, and criminality. 2026 will be a year of peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of Taraba State”, Kefas said.
And in Niger State, Governor Mohammed Bago noted that the state had made steady and significant progress under his leadership despite challenges such as insecurity and natural disasters. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining development while prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents in the new year.
In Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed congratulated residents and Nigerians on the New Year, thanking God for guiding the state through the challenges of 2025. He commended citizens for their resilience and patience amid economic and social difficulties and assured them that his administration would continue to provide support while pursuing sustainable, long-term financial solutions.
