Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, has announced that the Federal Government is deploying additional tactical units to Maiduguri to apprehend those responsible for Wednesday’s deadly bomb attack.
In a statement on Thursday, Shettima condemned the explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market, which claimed five lives and left several others injured, calling it “a tragic assault on innocent worshippers and the peace of the nation”.
He said President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate intensification of security operations in Borno State and assured that federal security forces are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the peace and security of our nation. Our security agencies are working round the clock to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended immediately”, Shettima said.
The Vice-President added that the federal government is collaborating closely with state authorities and local security agencies to protect vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure across the North East and beyond.
He expressed confidence that the current security architecture would not only bring the attackers to justice but also uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Shettima extended condolences to the Borno State Government, residents, and families affected by the explosion, assuring that those responsible would face the full weight of the law.
“Since assuming office in 2023, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has remained steadfast in safeguarding the security, unity, and stability of our nation. This commitment continues under God and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, he concluded.
