In response to growing consumer frustration over missed or delayed bill payments, Nigerian fintech firm OnePipe has introduced a new automated utility scheduling feature on its PaywithAccount platform. The innovation enables users to schedule and automate essential payments such as electricity bills, airtime, and mobile data directly from their bank accounts.
The rollout follows a recent EFInA survey showing that nearly half of Nigerian adults have missed at least one crucial utility or service payment in the past year. Designed to ease this widespread payment burden, the new feature aims to eliminate the stress of remembering multiple due dates and reduce the risk of service disruptions, penalties, and financial anxiety.
According to Akin Olunloye, Product Manager at PaywithAccount, “Managing monthly payments has become a significant source of stress for many Nigerians. This scheduling feature within PaywithAccount is a direct response to the need for automation. Our goal is to help consumers streamline their payments reliably and consistently.”
User feedback from early adopters has been overwhelmingly positive. Chinyere, a Lagos-based lawyer, said the service has transformed her payment habits: “Missing electricity payments has always been a hassle in my household. Automating with PaywithAccount has eliminated that completely. I get notifications and receipts immediately through WhatsApp. It’s made a big difference.” Sodiq, a digital marketer, added that it has simplified both his personal and business payments: “I handle various payments every month for family and business purposes. Automating these transactions with PaywithAccount means I never worry about disruptions, even if I’m occupied or traveling. It’s genuinely simplified how I handle my finances.”
Currently, PaywithAccount’s scheduling supports major electricity distribution companies — including Eko, Ikeja, Abuja, and Ibadan — alongside MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9Mobile for mobile top-ups. OnePipe says more categories such as insurance premiums and cooperative dues will be integrated soon.
With this latest innovation, OnePipe reinforces its commitment to helping Nigerians manage payments more efficiently through secure, user-centred financial solutions.
