Fans of Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido have voiced widespread disappointment online following his loss at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Davido, nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his hit collaboration with Omah Lay, With You, was defeated by South African singer Tyla, who took the award for her viral record, Push 2 Start.
Other nominees in the category included Burna Boy (Love), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat), and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin (Hope & Love). Despite Davido’s high-profile campaign and efforts to secure the accolade, this marks the second consecutive year he has been edged out by Tyla.
Social Media Outcry
Twitter quickly became a hub of reactions as fans expressed outrage over the result.

@_iam_zayn questioned the fairness of the process: “How long will Grammy keep sidelining Nigerians like this?”
-
Some users dismissed the awards entirely, with one commenting: “Grammy is overrated.”
Support for the Afrobeats Star
Despite the disappointment, many fans emphasized that Grammy recognition does not determine Davido’s success or influence. They highlighted his consistency, global reach, and contribution to African music.

Even Nigerian celebrity Cubana Chiefpriest showed support, tweeting: “Heads up brother, open the bag & drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na Water…”
The Grammys Ceremony
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards were held on Sunday, February 1, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah for the sixth straight year. While Nigeria did not claim a win, Davido’s nomination alongside Omah Lay reflects the continued global recognition of Nigerian music.
