The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has marked a significant achievement in Ogun State with a successful sensitization program held in Ijebu-Ife.
The event, spearheaded by Otunba Femi Adewumi and hosted by Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde (Hacco), Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, has resulted in a notable increase in awareness and enrollment for the NELFUND student loan scheme throughout the region.
In a statement released by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications for NELFUND, the sensitization exercise gathered a diverse audience, including parents, guardians, students, community leaders, and educational stakeholders.
The program provided comprehensive information on how to apply for the NELFUND student loan, part of a Federal Government initiative aimed at eliminating financial barriers to higher education.
Highlighting the initiative’s significance, Otunba Femi Adewumi emphasized, “Our goal was straightforward: to ensure that no student in our communities is hindered by financial constraints. I am proud of the impact this sensitization has achieved and commend NELFUND for delivering real opportunities to our young people.”
NELFUND has announced substantial disbursements for the 2024/2025 academic session, with various institutions confirming receipt of funds:
1). Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science & Technology, Omu-Ajose
Batch 1: 264 students — ₦33,575,000
Batch 2: 59 students — ₦6,997,500
Total: ₦40,572,500
2). Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU)
3,473 students — ₦718,585,000
3). Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic
Batch 1: 87 students — ₦12,164,500
Batch 2: 18 students — ₦14,779,500
Reflecting on the impact of the sensitization initiative, NELFUND’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, commended the collaborative efforts that have led to increased opportunities for students in Ogun State. The program is a testament to NELFUND’s commitment to enhancing access to education for all.
“Our mission is to democratize access to higher education for every Nigerian student, regardless of financial background. The support from community leaders such as Otunba Femi Adewumi and Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde shows what is possible when government institutions and local stakeholders work together.”
He added that NELFUND remains committed to expanding such engagements across all six geopolitical zones to ensure broad awareness and seamless access to the loan scheme.
