The Nigerian Army has rejected as false and misleading a viral publication alleging that soldiers are threatening mutiny over issues related to salaries and allowances.
The Army described the report as sensational, irresponsible, and deliberately crafted to undermine public confidence in the military and threaten national security.
Reacting to the allegation, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, said there has been no instance or threat of mutiny within the Nigerian Army, stressing that such claims are alien to the institution’s values.
“Mutiny is a grave offence under military law and is completely foreign to the ethos, discipline, and professionalism of Nigerian Army personnel,” she said, adding that troops remain loyal to the Constitution and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Colonel Anele explained that the publication relied on anonymous and unverifiable sources circulated through unofficial channels, noting that soldiers are trained to channel grievances through established military procedures rather than public platforms.
She clarified that military remuneration goes beyond promotion increments, comprising consolidated salaries, rank-based allowances, operational, field and hardship allowances, and other entitlements determined by deployment, qualifications, and responsibilities.
The Army further stated that in collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and relevant government authorities, it continues to implement structured welfare reforms, including salary reviews, improved allowances, better accommodation, enhanced medical care, and comprehensive insurance packages for troops and their families.
According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff has since assuming office engaged constructively with appropriate authorities on troop welfare, efforts the Army said are already yielding positive outcomes.
It also noted that the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces amid evolving security challenges.
Reaffirming its professionalism, the Nigerian Army said it remains cohesive, disciplined, and fully focused on defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting internal security operations, warning that portraying the institution as unstable is harmful to national security.
The Army urged the public to disregard unfounded reports and rely only on official communication channels for accurate information.
