The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that it has secured and recovered the wreckage of one of its Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) following a technical incident during an operational mission in the North-West zone.
In a statement issued by the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the UAV was deployed on a routine mission on Friday, January 2, 2026, within the Operation FASAN YAMMA Sector 3 area when it experienced a loss of communication link.
According to Ejodame, all attempts to re-establish the link were unsuccessful, prompting the crew to initiate emergency return-to-base procedures in line with standard operational protocols. He added that the NAF immediately activated coordinated response and recovery measures in collaboration with sister services and relevant authorities.
“The platform has since been contained, with assessment and recovery activities progressing as planned”, the statement said.
Ejodame noted that technical teams have secured the UAV and commenced preliminary evaluations in accordance with established safety and operational guidelines. He stressed that there was no loss of life as a result of the incident and that operational activities across all theatres remain unaffected.
The Nigerian Air Force reassured the public of its continued professionalism and commitment to national security, stating that counter-insurgency and other ongoing operations are continuing without interruption.
