In a bold move to combat terrorism, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an aggressive air interdiction campaign, targeting terrorist networks in the North-East and North-West regions. Over the course of January 1 and 2, 2026, the NAF conducted a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at crippling these networks and denying safe havens to insurgents, reinforcing its commitment to national security.
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force in a Statement, the operations, carried out under the framework of Operations HADIN KAI and FASAN YAMMA SECTOR 2, utilized actionable intelligence on terrorist movements and logistics to execute precision strikes against identified hideouts, movement routes, and assembly areas. This coordinated effort underscores the NAF’s resolve to eliminate any operational capacity of terrorist elements within the country’s borders.
In the North-East, targeted strikes were conducted against well-concealed terrorist enclaves located in Abirma and Chiralia within the Timbuktu Triangle. NAF’s persistent surveillance had identified these sites as actively involved in the production of improvised explosive devices and planning for potential attacks.
The precision strikes not only destroyed critical infrastructure but also resulted in multiple secondary explosions, indicating the successful neutralization of explosive stockpiles. Additionally, follow-up operations at Guva in the Mandara Mountains dismantled terrorist storage and coordination sites, significantly impairing the group’s ability to regroup and mount further attacks.
Simultaneously, air operations in the North-West focused on the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, where NAF forces targeted terrorist activities tracked in large motorcycle convoys. Engaged at a forested convergence point, these strikes resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists, the destruction of multiple motorcycles, and the seizure of various weapons.
This multi-theatre approach highlights the overwhelming airpower and rapid response capability of the Nigerian Air Force, reinforcing its commitment to systematic counter-terrorism. The NAF has assured the Nigerian people that its operations will continue with unyielding precision and professionalism, providing essential support to ground forces in maintaining security and stability throughout the nation.
As the NAF continues its operations, it reiterates its dedication to safeguarding innocent lives and upholding national security objectives while striving to restore peace across all theatres of operation.
