The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has officially taken possession of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) Portal, a pivotal development in the nationâs digital transformation agenda.
During the handover ceremony held at the Continental Hotel in Abuja on Thursday, Abdullahi, represented by Dr. Dimie Warowei, Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, hailed the event as the result of a strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea, facilitated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Initiated in late 2022, the NGEA initiative is a key element of Nigeriaâs e-Government Masterplan 2.0, aimed at modernizing the digital infrastructure of the public sector through integrated systems and standardized frameworks across various government institutions.
Abdullahi explained that over the past two and a half years, Nigerian and Korean experts have collaborated to review and enhance the countryâs enterprise architecture framework. This project has produced a revamped structure designed to improve interoperability, efficiency, and alignment with national priorities.
As part of the initiative, several reference modelsâincluding Technology, Business, and Service modelsâwere developed to guide implementation within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Additionally, Data and Performance Reference Models are expected to further boost the system’s effectiveness.
Pilot programs were launched within key government agencies, including the National Identity Management Commission, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and NITDA itself, with capacity-building support and tailored digital transformation roadmaps provided to these organizations.
The Director-General also noted the involvement of indigenous firm Qorebox Technologies Limited, which deployed supporting infrastructure hosted by Galaxy Backbone, including a two-year maintenance plan to ensure system stability.
He emphasized that the newly launched NGEA Portal signifies more than just a digital platform; it serves as a foundation for a more coordinated and citizen-centric government. “The successful implementation of enterprise architecture across government will help reduce duplication, improve interoperability, and enhance service delivery,â Abdullahi stated.
In expressing gratitude to the Korean government and KOICA for their technical and strategic support, he reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to promoting the nationwide adoption of the framework.
Mr. Eunsub Kim, the Country Director of KOICA, also spoke at the event, describing it as the fruitful outcome of the partnership between KOICA and NITDA. He commended NITDA for its crucial role in advancing the initiative and reiterated KOICA’s commitment to supporting Nigeriaâs digital transformation efforts.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr Nadungu Gagare, represented by Mr Johnson Bareyei, described the NGEA Portal as a transition from fragmented digital initiatives to a more coordinated national framework.
He noted that the achievement aligns with the ministryâs transformation agenda under the leadership of Dr Bosun Tijani, and expressed appreciation to the Korean government for its technical and financial support, while also commending NITDA for successfully driving the project.
The handover signals the beginning of a new phase, with NITDA set to lead the operational management and long-term sustainability of the platform as Nigeria continues its push toward a more digitally driven public sector.
