The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday inaugurated “Gateway Shield”, a digital safety and intelligence app aimed at giving Ogun State residents swift, direct access to police services — especially in situations where reaching a police station is difficult.
CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun Police Command, announced the launch in a statement issued in Abeokuta, saying the app is part of the IGP’s drive to modernise Nigeria’s policing through technology, data use and community engagement.
Odutola described Gateway Shield as “not just an app; it is a lifeline,” and explained how it will remove barriers between the public and the police to ensure help is always within reach.

Odutola said the IGP views Gateway Shield as a practical expression of the police’s commitment to making security accessible, responsive and people-centred, leveraging smart technology to improve service delivery and community safety
