Amid rising security concerns nationwide, Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Badaru Abubakar, has underscored the need for a unified intelligence system, calling for deeper coordination among security agencies to counter the country’s rapidly evolving security challenges.
He made the call in Abuja while serving as the special guest at the 2025 Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Annual Conference.
The conference, themed “Multi-Source Intelligence and Innovation in a Changing National Security Ecosystem,” brought together Defence Attachés, intelligence specialists, senior military officers, and international partners. Badaru also conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill message, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty through strengthened intelligence management.
The Minister emphasized that innovative and robust intelligence operations are essential for tackling threats such as terrorism, banditry, and cybercrime. He highlighted the Defence Intelligence Agency’s recent strides, including Joint Intelligence Fusion efforts and enhanced cyber-monitoring systems, which he described as critical force multipliers.
Badaru stressed that Nigeria’s greatest intelligence asset remains its people and called for continuous training and capacity development across security institutions. He outlined strategic priorities such as real-time data exchange, stronger regional partnerships, and improved inter-agency synergy.
Encouraging participants to “think boldly and propose innovative solutions that deliver real impact,” he assured them of the administration’s support in advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Through vigilance and unity of purpose, we will strengthen Nigeria’s security foundations”, he declared.
The Minister commended the Chief of Defence Intelligence and his team for their dedication and wished all participants successful deliberations.
