The Nigerian government has launched a National Task Force on Clinical Governance and Patient Safety to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
The initiative, announced by Muhammad Pate on Friday via his verified X account, is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for health.
The task force will focus on integrating quality and patient safety into all health services, supporting improvement, learning, and capacity building rather than blame.
Its work includes reviewing national clinical governance, developing policies and standards, preventing and responding to adverse events, promoting ethical practice and engaging patients and communities. It will also set indicators for monitoring quality and safety and coordinate with stakeholders across federal, state, and private sectors.
Members include officials from relevant health departments, professional associations, civil society, health institutions, and national and international experts. Additional experts may be added as needed to strengthen patient safety across Nigeria’s health system.
