Partnership between Nigeria and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is set to expand, with new focus areas in digital transformation and human capital development.
Vice President, Kashim Shettima, gave the assurance during a meeting in Abuja with a delegation from the foundation led by its President of Global Growth and Opportunity (GGO), Hari Menon.
Shettima commended the foundation for its sustained investments and humanitarian support in Nigeria, describing it as a key partner in national development efforts.
He said the foundation has played a significant role in supporting reforms across sectors such as health, agriculture, nutrition and human capital development.
According to him, the federal government is committed to elevating the partnership further, particularly in nutrition and agricultural productivity.
He stressed the need for increased agricultural output through modern practices such as the use of high-yield and climate-resilient seed varieties, precision farming and improved irrigation systems.
The Vice President also noted that Nigeria has vast economic potential, adding that effective reforms could position the country among the world’s leading economies.
He described agriculture as a critical driver of growth, saying improved productivity remains central to the administration’s economic agenda.
In his remarks, Hari Menon said the delegation was in Nigeria to deepen and broaden the foundation’s partnership with the country.
He said the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is committed to supporting Nigeria’s reform agenda under the current administration.
Menon added that Nigeria is undergoing significant transformation and remains a key partner in the foundation’s global development strategy, alongside efforts to drive long-term economic growth through innovation and collaboration.
