The Nigeria Customs Service has warned the public to be cautious of false information circulating on social media, stressing that such messages are not authentic and did not originate from the Service.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, the Service urged Nigerians to ignore misleading messages and rely exclusively on updates from verified NCS communication channels.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard this fake message and rely on updates published through our verified platforms,” the statement said, emphasizing that official sources remain the most reliable avenue for accurate information regarding NCS policies, procedures, and announcements.
The Service also highlighted that sharing unverified content can cause confusion, spread misinformation, and erode public trust. Nigerians were therefore encouraged to confirm the authenticity of news before sharing it.
To stay informed, the NCS advised following its verified social media handles and official website for accurate and timely updates.
The Service routinely issues official statements to correct false information, particularly messages regarding customs procedures, taxes, or penalties that can create unnecessary panic among the public.
By relying on verified sources, the public can help curb misinformation and ensure accurate knowledge of customs regulations and activities.
