
Nigeria’s Eniola Bolaji, a Paralympic bronze medallist, struck gold in the women’s singles SL3 category at the First Abia Para Badminton International Tournament in Umuahia.
Bolaji eased past Cameroon’s Danyele Mouafo 21-7, 21-3 in the final as the hosts finished fourth overall with three gold, four silver and nine bronze medals.
Jeremiah Nnanna, Africa’s top-ranked player in the SL4 class, defeated compatriot Yahaya Ayuba 21-9, 21-8 to secure gold in the men’s singles SL4, while Mary Nathan edged Brazil’s Juscileia Silva 5-21, 21-18, 21-17 to win the women’s singles WH1.
Brazil topped the medal table with seven golds, followed by India and Peru.
The week-long event, featuring 114 athletes from 13 nations across 19 events, ended on 5 October with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State attending the closing ceremony.
