MoU targets ports development, digital solutions as both countries deepen economic ties
Nigeria has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Ports Group to explore strategic partnerships in ports development, maritime logistics and digital solutions, in a move aimed at strengthening cooperation in the maritime and blue economy sectors.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the recently concluded Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, according to a statement issued by Osagie Edward, Head of Public Relations at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The Nigerian delegation was led by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, while Mohamed Hassan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, represented the company at the signing ceremony. Also present was Dayo Mobereola, Director-General of NIMASA.
Following the signing, the delegation briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the scope and strategic significance of the agreement.
“The MoU, which has been under consideration for more than two decades, is part of the wider trade and investment engagements between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates,” the statement said.
Edward noted that the agreement reflects a renewed commitment by both countries to deepen collaboration in maritime infrastructure, logistics efficiency and the broader blue economy, positioning the partnership as a key driver of future economic cooperation between Nigeria and the UAE.
