Niger Tornadoes technical adviser Majin Mohammed says his side’s 1-0 defeat to Rivers United was down to a costly loss of focus.
The Ikon Allah Boys were edged out at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, as Maclyn Biokpo’s second-half penalty sealed victory for the hosts.
Despite the setback, Mohammed praised his players’ effort and insisted they had created opportunities to change the outcome.
“We lost the game narrowly, due to loss of concentration. Overall, it was a good game for us,” Mohammed told reporters.
“About the penalty, referees have ways they interpret the law. Whether it’s a ball to hand or hand to ball, whichever way, it was his decision and, even though it was not favourable to us, there is nothing we can do but abide by it.
“The boys did very well. We had our chances that could have won us the game, but we couldn’t take them and paid for it.”
Tornadoes remain fourth in the NPFL standings with nine points.
