Stella Apolot Isodo, the incumbent and outgoing Woman MP for Ngora district, has died just hours after losing her bid for re-election, sending shockwaves through the district and the wider political community.
Tributes have poured in for Isodo, a seasoned politician and long-serving mobiliser for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who was widely known for her advocacy on women’s rights and community development.
Throughout her tenure in parliament, Isodo earned respect across political divides for her grassroots mobilisation and commitment to advancing social and economic initiatives in Ngora district. Her death has left a deep sense of loss among supporters, colleagues, and constituents.
The news was confirmed by speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among through her X (formerly Twitter) account. According to preliminary reports, Isodo had been battling a short illness and was being transported to Mulago national referral hospital for specialised treatment when she passed away on Saturday evening.
Isodo’s political career came to an abrupt end following a tightly contested election that reshaped Ngora’s political landscape. The seat was won by Pedun Josephine Pedun of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), who secured 17,010 votes.
Abeja Christine Abeja of the Democratic Party (DP) followed with 12,152 votes, while Isodo polled 11,334 votes, finishing third. National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Amuge Rhoda trailed with 437 votes.
