Brazilian football superstar Neymar Jr. has taken ownership of the Pelé brand, following an announcement on Tuesday by his father’s company, NR Sports, which purchased the rights from the previous owner.
Neymar Santos Sr., the head of NR Sports, revealed the acquisition at the Pelé Museum in Santos, the coastal city synonymous with the legendary player. “We are proud to reach this milestone,” Santos Sr. said. “I think it’s a very strong brand. We want to enhance its identity and bring it into the present.”
Although the financial details were not officially disclosed due to confidentiality agreements with US-based Sport 10, Brazilian media outlets report the deal is valued at around $18 million.
Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history, guiding Brazil to World Cup victories in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Even after his passing in December 2022, his legacy continues to inspire millions around the globe.
Flavia Nascimento, Pelé’s daughter, attended the ceremony and expressed her joy at the brand’s new ownership. “There are no words to describe the emotion of bringing back a brand that is the soul, humanity, love. It’s priceless… as his daughter, I feel honoured and happy,” she told reporters.
With Neymar Jr. now at the helm, the Pelé brand is set for a new chapter, blending the legendary footballer’s enduring legacy with the modern global influence of one of Brazil’s current sporting icons.
