A fresh outage at American internet services giant Cloudflare briefly knocked several major websites offline on Friday, affecting platforms such as US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social and popular graphic design site Canva.
Users attempting to access the affected sites were met with error messages referencing Cloudflare until service began returning around 09:30 GMT.
Cloudflare’s Chief Technology Officer, Dane Knecht, confirmed the disruption in a post on X at 09:20 GMT, noting that engineers were actively working to restore normal operations. He stressed that the incident was “not an attack,” addressing early speculation circulating online.
Throughout the morning, users on X also reported difficulty accessing a range of other websites, further highlighting the scale of the outage.
Cloudflare, which provides critical services such as security, traffic management, and performance optimisation for websites and applications, handles an estimated 20 percent of global internet traffic. This reach means even brief disruptions can trigger widespread service interruptions across the internet.
Friday’s outage comes on the heels of a similar incident in mid-November, when a major Cloudflare failure took many high-profile sites offline for several hours.
