Manchester United legend Gary Neville has admitted he has been surprised by the impact of Noni Madueke since the winger’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal.
Neville, speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, even likened the England international’s playing style to that of Dutch great Arjen Robben, a former Bayern Munich star.
Arsenal were heavily criticised — even by sections of their own supporters — for paying £52 million to sign Madueke from their London rivals. But the 22-year-old has already delivered strong performances, including a lively display in the Gunners’ 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
“Madueke is a lot better than I imagined and thought he would be. And certainly a lot better than Arsenal fans thought he would be,” Neville said.
The ex-United captain highlighted Madueke’s runs for both club and country, calling them “different level” movements that reminded him of defending against Robben.
“I’m not saying Madueke is there yet, but his movement and the things that he’s doing are very, very good,” Neville explained.
He also praised Eberechi Eze, noting that Arsenal now boast a wealth of creative options alongside Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
