The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down a quarry site operated by Dai Jin Jia Investment Limited in the Abuja Municipal Area Council following widespread public complaints over uncontrolled blasting activities.
The enforcement action was taken after residents raised alarm over the company’s persistent and unregulated operations, which were reportedly carried out in violation of Nigeria’s environmental protection standards.
NESREA officials said multiple environmental infractions were uncovered during investigations, including the absence of the required permits and certification for the company’s blasting plan.
The agency further alleged that the quarry’s blasting activities had caused structural damage to nearby homes and were linked to the tragic death of a young child, heightening safety concerns among families living in the area.
Although security personnel initially attempted to prevent the closure of the site, enforcement officers eventually sealed the facility amid growing public pressure to safeguard the environment and community safety.
