The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is advocating for an increase in education reporting among electricity consumers, as highlighted by its Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, during a recent meeting with the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PCAN).
Dr. Oseni, speaking during the courtesy visit on Monday, emphasized the crucial role that specialized reporters play in disseminating accurate information about the Nigerian power sector.
He encouraged journalists to leverage their access to information to contribute to enhanced industry reporting, which is essential for fostering greater public understanding of the ongoing reforms in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
“The media’s role in informing the public cannot be overstated. Informed coverage is key to securing public support for the reforms we are implementing,” Dr. Oseni remarked.
PCAN Chairman Obas Esiedesa lauded NERC for its strides in improving digital transparency and proactive data sharing, highlighting the importance of accessible information for both consumers and industry stakeholders.
Esiedesa reaffirmed PCAN’s commitment to bolstering the depth and accuracy of reporting within the power sector, aligning with NERC’s goals of fostering better consumer education.
As discussions progressed, both NERC and PCAN expressed optimism about the potential impact of collaboration in enhancing the public’s understanding of electricity-related issues and the ongoing transformation within the sector.
The meeting underscores a mutual commitment to advancing the quality of information available to Nigerian electricity consumers.
