The latest report from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reveals encouraging progress in the metering landscape of Nigeria’s power Distribution Companies (DisCos).
In December 2025, DisCos successfully metered a total of 109,556 customers, showcasing a significant uptick compared to 88,592 customers metered in November 2025.
According to the Metering Factsheet for November and December 2025 released by NERC on Tuesday, the national metering rate has risen to 57.27%, up from 56.54% the previous month. The report underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance metering accessibility, vital for effective electricity management across the country.
Ikeja, Eko, and Abuja DisCos continue to set the standard for metering progress, all boasting metering rates exceeding 76%. Overall, as of the end of December 2025, Nigeria has a total of 6,966,584 metered customers out of 12,163,412 active customers.
In a further effort to address the prevailing metering gap in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), the Federal Government is advancing plans to deliver 2.5 million prepaid meters and distribution transformer meters.
Under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), ₦700 billion has been allocated to procure and roll out these meters. Procurement processes are currently underway with 42 Local Meter Manufacturers and Assemblers (LMMA) set to supply and install an initial 750,000 meters within the next 15 months.
Additionally, the PMI is collaborating with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) to train 5,000 meter installers, further supporting the initiative to enhance metering efficiency and accessibility across the nation.
