Reality TV star Neo Akpofure has shared how a chance encounter with music executive Don Jazzy a decade ago reshaped his outlook on life.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Neo revealed that in 2013, he was randomly selected as the winner of an MTV Base trivia competition titled “A Day with Don Jazzy.” At the time, he was uncertain about his future and questioning his path, but the opportunity came as a breakthrough moment.
The prize was an all-expense-paid trip to South Africa with Don Jazzy and the Mavin Records crew for an award show. However, Neo—then a student at the University of Calabar—was unable to make the trip due to his final exams.
Despite missing out, he was flown to Lagos to meet the celebrated producer and was given a ₦500,000 compensation. Neo described the experience as a turning point that inspired him to believe in his dreams.
“That single encounter changed my life,” he wrote. “It made me believe that I could truly be whoever I wanted to be. It reignited a fire in me that no circumstance could put out.”
Looking back a decade later, Neo expressed gratitude to Don Jazzy for unknowingly inspiring his journey and to God for fulfilling promises in his life. “I am a living testimony that when grace speaks, destiny listens,” he added.
Responding to the post, Don Jazzy praised Neo and wished him more success ahead. “You are destined for greatness. Everybody I know that knows you always has amazing things to say about you. Makes me happy and I’m proud to have a line or 2 in your book. More blessings ahead,” the Mavin Records boss wrote.
Neo, whose full name is Emuobonuvie Akpofure, rose to fame as a housemate on Big Brother Naija Season 5 Lockdown edition in 2020. Known for his lively personality, he built a strong fan base during the show and has since established himself as one of the franchise’s standout stars.
