The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration aimed at promoting electrical safety and enforcing technical standards across Nigeria.
This renewed partnership was highlighted during a recent courtesy visit by Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Ogaji, Managing Director/CEO of APGC, to NEMSA’s headquarters in Abuja.
As contained in a statement by Ama Umoren, Public Affairs Unit , NEMSA, during the meeting, Dr. Ogaji praised NEMSA for its crucial regulatory functions within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), particularly in areas such as enforcing technical standards, inspecting electrical installations, and certifying electricity meters and instruments.
She emphasized that these roles are essential for ensuring the safety, reliability, and sustainability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
Dr. Ogaji also called for enhanced public awareness of NEMSA’s activities, particularly regarding meter testing, certification, and compliance monitoring.
She noted that increased visibility of NEMSA’s work could foster greater compliance with established standards and promote the efficient utilization of electricity nationwide.
To further improve collaboration, Dr. Ogaji proposed establishing regular engagement between NEMSA and APGC to facilitate knowledge sharing and coordination within the power generation sector.
Her delegation included Mr. Sunday Adelake, Technical Aide to the Managing Director of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL).
In response, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, Managing Director/CEO of NEMSA, welcomed the APGC delegation and expressed gratitude for their visit.
He reaffirmed NEMSA’s commitment to working closely with APGC and other stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to electrical standards, enhance operational safety, and improve service delivery throughout the power value chain.
Engr. Adesayo noted that continuous collaboration among sector players is crucial for advancing the common goal of strengthening Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure while ensuring the protection of lives and property through effective inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations and equipment.
This visit underscores the importance of strategic partnerships among key institutions in the power sector, driving reforms, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring a safe and sustainable electricity supply for all Nigerians.
