The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has categorically dismissed recent reports suggesting the diversion of student loan disbursements at the University of Abuja, asserting that no verified evidence has been presented to support these claims.
In a statement released and signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director, Strategic Communications today Thursday, NELFUND addressed recent media publications alleging that funds intended for students at the university were either diverted or unlawfully withheld. The Fund clarified that, as of now, no proof has been established to confirm any misconduct by the university.
The agency elaborated on its structured disbursement and reconciliation framework, which aligns with its statutory mandate. It emphasized that funds are disbursed through established institutional channels that are equipped with compliance mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability.
NELFUND further stated that if concerns about delays in crediting student accounts or issues with reconciliation processes arise, it engages directly with the respective institution to resolve such matters through administrative channels and in accordance with due process.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting the interests of eligible Nigerian students, NELFUND assured the public that all loan disbursements are handled in compliance with the law. The agency also expressed its intention to continue collaborating with partner institutions to maintain transparency and uphold the integrity of the student loan program.
