In a move aimed at further facilitating access to education financing, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially announced an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal, following a notable increase in nationwide interest driven by its recent sensitization campaign.
According to Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director, Strategic Communications, Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the extension responds to significant feedback from students and stakeholders, reflecting the growing awareness and urgency around the fund’s initiatives.
Initially set to close on February 27, 2026, the Student Loan Application Portal will continue to accept applications for additional days.
This decision comes after the Fund recognized a surge in applications and inquiries from students who were unaware of the scheme before the campaign launched.
The extension will particularly benefit several groups:
– Students who need extra time to complete their applications.
– Prospective applicants who were introduced to the scheme during the ongoing nationwide sensitization initiatives.
– Educational institutions starting their 2025/2026 academic sessions.
– Institutions that have yet to submit their verified student lists.
Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NELFUND, emphasized the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and equitable access to educational financing. “Our sensitization efforts across the six geopolitical zones have significantly increased awareness and participation.
Therefore, in line with our mandate to expand access to tertiary education financing, we have approved an extension to ensure that all eligible students have a fair and equal opportunity to apply,” Sawyerr stated.
He also advised educational institutions yet to commence their academic sessions to formally submit a request for an extension, along with their approved academic calendar, for consideration.
Students are strongly encouraged to take full advantage of this extended timeframe to complete their applications through the official NELFUND portal, ensuring they do not miss out on securing financial assistance for their higher education.
NELFUND remains steadfast in its mission to promote transparency, accountability, and sustainable financing solutions, aiming to eliminate financial barriers that hinder access to higher education in Nigeria.
