Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko has refuted claims that he married actress Regina Daniels when she was 17, insisting she told him she was 21 at the time they met.
Their marriage has been under public scrutiny in recent weeks following an escalating dispute marked by accusations of domestic violence and drug use. The actress has accused the lawmaker of physically abusing her, while Nwoko has alleged that she abuses hard drugs and needs rehabilitation.
Responding to claims circulating online about Regina’s age at the start of their relationship, Nwoko took to X on Thursday to set the record straight. He said the actress personally provided documentation to confirm her age.
According to him, Regina presented her INEC voter’s card, which he says showed she was born on October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21 years old,” he wrote. “She presented her INEC voter’s card, which clearly shows her date of birth.”
Nwoko added that he kept the document from that day and referenced a BBC interview in which Regina’s mother reportedly spoke about her daughter’s age after the marriage.
The couple, who share two children, remain embroiled in a public and increasingly bitter conflict, with new allegations emerging from both sides.
