Nigerian politician and businessman, Senator Ned Nwoko, has responded to the arrest of Ann Izuegbu Anthonet, a close associate of his estranged wife and Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, as the controversy surrounding their ongoing dispute deepens.
The arrest has generated widespread public debate after Daniels questioned its legality and alleged abuse of power, while Nwoko’s camp countered with claims of criminal misconduct.
On January 14, Daniels took to social media to condemn the arrest of her friend, listing a series of accusations she said were levelled against Ann, including allegations relating to drugs and theft. Daniels suggested the arrest was unjustified and politically motivated.
However, in a statement shared on Instagram, Nwoko’s communication team dismissed Daniels’ claims as “false, reckless, and deliberately intended to distort the facts.”
According to the statement, Ann was arrested for allegedly making public claims that Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Laila Nwoko, and caused her to suffer a miscarriage. Nwoko’s team described those allegations as entirely untrue.
The statement further accused Ann of involvement in procuring an illegal abortion for Daniels during her marriage to the senator. It alleged that substances were administered to Daniels, leading to prolonged bleeding and the loss of an unborn child. These claims, the team said, are part of matters currently under investigation.
Nwoko also alleged that Ann has links to the handling and distribution of illegal substances, adding that a formal witness statement concerning the matter was submitted to the Maitama Police Station in October 2025.
According to the senator’s team, Ann’s arrest followed a social media post they described as threatening and defamatory toward the Nwoko family, stressing that the case has moved beyond online exchanges and is now being handled by law enforcement agencies.
“This is not a social media dispute but a law-enforcement issue grounded in evidence, witness testimonies, and due process,” the statement said.
The development comes amid growing revelations from Daniels, who recently confirmed that arrest warrants had also been issued for her and some family members over allegations involving the theft of $40,000 from Nwoko’s residence.
The private conflict between the estranged couple first became public in October, after Daniels shared a video alleging domestic violence. Nwoko denied the claim, instead accusing the actress of struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. While Daniels admitted to past drug use, she alleged that Nwoko orchestrated it as a form of control.
As investigations continue, the Nwoko family has urged the public to rely on verified information and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties without interference.
