The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, just 52 days after the final examination paper was completed.
In a press briefing held in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, revealed that candidates were assessed in 16 subjects throughout the examination period. A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the exam, including 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%).
Out of the registered candidates, 95,160 participated in the examination, comprising 50,785 males (53.36%) and 44,375 females (46.63%).
In terms of performance, Prof. Wushishi noted that 93,425 candidates took the English Language exam, with 73,167 achieving credit passes or higher, translating to a pass rate of 78.32%. For Mathematics, 93,330 candidates participated, and 85,256 secured credit passes, representing an impressive 91.35% success rate.
Notably, 68,166 candidates (71.63%) obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26%) achieved five credits regardless of including these two subjects.
Addressing issues of examination malpractice, the Registrar reported that a total of 9,016 candidates were implicated in various offenses, marking a 31.7% increase from the 6,160 cases noted in 2024.
Additionally, five supervisors have been blacklisted for their involvement in facilitating malpractice, with two from the Federal Capital Territory and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states. Four examination centres—two in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano—have also been recommended for derecognition due to mass malpractice.
The 2025 SSCE External examination took place between November 26 and December 13, 2025, with marking conducted from January 5 to January 21, 2026. This examination provides candidates the opportunity to improve their academic qualifications for admission into tertiary institutions both within Nigeria and abroad.
Prof. Wushishi emphasized that the release of the results marks another significant achievement in NECO’s ongoing commitment to providing credible assessments and reliable certification for Nigerian students. He also extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of the education sector.
Candidates can access their results on NECO’s official website using their examination registration numbers. Regarding the outstanding amount owed to NECO for examination registration, the Registrar reported that less than N2 billion is currently owed across the 36 states.
